Um 18 Uhr stürzt sich der 19 Jahre alte Syrer Wassim al M. am Holocaust-Mahnmal in Mitte auf einen spanischen Touristen, um ihm die Kehle durchzuschneiden. Er verletzt den Mann schwer, der nur durch eine Notoperation gerettet werden kann. Wassim al M. wurde von der Polizei gestellt und gab an, er habe Juden töten wollen. In seinem Rucksack fanden die Ermittler einen Koran, einen Gebetsteppich und ein Jagdmesser. Als er kurz nach dem Mordversuch festgenommen wurde, klebte Blut an seinen Händen. Am Tag der Tat schieb er einem befreundeten 17 Jahre alten Syrer in der Unterkunft, dass er „etwas vorhat und nach Berlin fährt“. Er wollte Juden ermorden und vermutete, dass er am Holocaust-Mahnmal auf Juden treffen würde. Den Spanier, den er niederstach, hielt er für einen Juden. Ein Jahr später, als er volljährig wurde, gab man ihm einen Platz in der Asylunterkunft Eutritzscher Straße. Hier traf er auf Mitbewohner, die den Hass gegen Juden schürten, hier schloss er sich der Terrorgruppe „Islamischer Staat“ an und verübte in deren Namen den Mordanschlag am Holocaust-Mahnmal. Die Betreuung, die für unbegleitete minderjährige Flüchtlinge mit hohem Aufwand betrieben wird, war überfordert und scheiterte. Dann geriet er in seiner neuen Unterkunft in ein islamistisches Milieu. Sie kann die Bevölkerung vor dem Terror nicht schützen, dennoch hält die unkontrollierte Zuwanderung an und es werden sogar noch Afghanen eingeflogen. Das ist die katastrophale Lage, in der wir sind.
